BEAUTY ADVICE (Q&A's):
Q. I am currently researching make up brushes and I have seen a nice set – but I’m not sure I need all the brushes so I was wondering what would you recommend to start off with (I can just build up my collection) also, what is the funny fan shaped brush used for? I heard it was for mascara but I don’t know what you actually do with it….

A. The funny fan-shaped brush in your brush kit which you may be referring to is actually called a Fan Brush. A fan brush is great for brushing excess eyeshadow fall-out from underneath the eye after you have applied your eye shadow/mascara. It is also great to use when you run it across a shimmer/highlighter and then fan across your cheekbones and forehead for a beautiful shimmer.I probably would suggest you use a blush/powder brush for your blush over a fan brush as they are thin and would take a long time to build the colour evenly. I do not use this brush a lot, as I prefer to use brushes which are more multi-purpose. There is also a comb brush in most kits and this can be used to comb the brows and lashes for when they get too clumpy (after using a thick mascara, etc).
Melli Cosmetics sell a fantastic 19 piece brush set ($150). It has every brush you could possibly need and the quality is fantastic.

Q. Do you suggest we curl our lashes prior to applying mascara or apply mascara and then curl our lashes? Because I have been to alot of different sites and you would be suprised how the applications differ from each other.

A. In regards to curling lashes I agree with you…everyone has a different view on it! I personally recommend curling lashes before using mascara.
WHY? The way I see it is that if you like your lashes thick and curly you will generally apply 2-3 coats of mascara anyhow. As curling tools can be quit stiff and strong, popping thick, spidery lashes under them and squeezing too hard can actually snap your lashes! EEK! This is why I recommend curling first! I’m sure you would agree! LOL.

Q. How do you apply foundation and bronzer/blush properly?! And the whole apple of your cheek thing with blush and bronzer i an never seem to get right! I’ve been going along blind with it for ages and havent been knowing what to do!

A. To apply a foundation properly, you first need to find a foundation that is for you. If you are seeking:
light coverage, I recommend Chanel Teint Innocence $69, Napoleon Perdis Minimal Makeup $55
light-med coverage, I recommend Chanel Vitalumiere $82, Gorgeous Cosmetics $65.
med-full coverage, I recommend Makeup Store $38, MAC Studio Fix Fluid $48.
matte/shine-free coverage, I recommend Chanel Mat Lumiere $69.
Application:
Apply foundation across the nose/cheeks first and blend outwards so you don’t get it caught in hairline/jawline, etc.
CLEAN FINGERS are fantastic tools for blending foundation as they warm up the product and help to press and blend well in to the skin, and best of all? They are free!
SPONGE/WEDGES are great but they soak up a lot of your product (and why spend good money on a product if it’s going to be sucked up by the sponge?)
FOUNDATION BRUSHES really do give you a fantastic, flawless application but you do need to keep them clean. If you think it’s too high maintenance, I recommend Sponges or Fingers.
BEAUTY BLENDERS are a new tool in the beauty industry, these are so easy to use and give you THE MOST FLAWLESS application because they have no seams or crease lines. These can be used for foundation & concealer and they can be cleaned with beauty cleanser. The beauty about them? They do not absorb the product, like a sponge would.

Then, I encourage you to lightly powder your skin with a pressed or loose powder (it is a matter of pereference). I always powder before applying blusher/bronzer so that the product does not stick on to the skin, giving you a harsh application.
When looking in the mirror, give yourself a smile so you can see the gorgeous apples on your cheeks. For Bronzer, we apply lightly just underneath this area ot give your cheeks a hollow/contour. Then you can lightly take the bronzer across the t-zone and lightly along the jawline to give definition.
For Blusher, we lightly apply blush along the apples of the cheeks and blend back toward the ear, but not all the way (about 3/4). Once I think I have enough on the skin, I flick the remaining powder out of the brush and then I use the brush to blend the blush across my cheeks so that there is no harsh line (we want it to look natural).
